Hello Pieter,

In my opinion you can build the stairs of wood or metal.

This decision is more of a design and esthetics issue rather that structural.

The stair can be completely free standing or the outer corner can be suspended from the ceiling for extra support.

Stairs are usually structurally rigid and if well designed, need little extra support.

Either way I would suggest that you decide on how you want the stair to look and then work the structural details around it.

Do have any examples of stairs that you like?

All the best,

Ness

Hi Ness,

Thank you very much. I was thinking brackets and then bould the wooden steps on to them. The apartment is on the second floor of the building with wooden floors. This means I need to find the support on the base of the entresol and the steel reinforcement of the timber of which the second stairs are going to be hung/suspended. Therefor I need the corners to be completely stiff what I can only find in welding or bould joints(I think). For the same reason the idea is to make one frame out of the landing and first stairs finding its support on the IPE of the entresol.

I would love to hear your view on this situation.

All the best,

Pieter

Hi Pieter,

I’ve adjusted you stairs for the stair wells.

In the compressed file you will find the sds files and DXf plans for your engineer.

I’m not clear as to how you want to build the stairs using UNPs. The outer string will have a curved shape so the UNP will have to be bent. Are you thinking of making brackets to fix the steps?

In my opinion theses stairs could also be made in wood.

For a more modern style I would make the strings in steel and steps in wood.

I don’t think you really need to calculate the structure of the stair, as I’m sure it can be made of standard materials.

All the best,

Ness

Hi Ness,

Here’s a OneDrive link that should work:

https://onedrive.live.com/redi…..lder%2cdwg

The first set goes from the ground floor on to a landing to the entresol. The second goes next to the entresol from the landing to the second floor, hanging from the second floor. This is the main reason why it needs to be constructed in steel.

I hope this makes things clearer.

All the best,

Pieter

Hi Pieter,

I understand for the UNPs.

I’ll set up the main design to send to the structural engineer and then modify the sections according the his calculations if necessary.

Can you put the plans into a DropBox  and post the link?

All the best,

Ness

Hello Ness,

The engineer that does the structural strength calculations is waiting for my designs before he can give the the dimentions of the UNP’s so I’m in a bit of a catch-22 here. The floorplan and photo’s I want to upload are exceeding the file size limit. Is there a different adress I can send them too?

All the best,

Pieter

Hello Pieter,

Thanks for buying the StairFile service.

To best advise you can you send me some more information on your project?

Do you have any plans and / or photos of the stair well ?

It would also be helpful if you could describe how you are thinking of making the stair and give me the sections and thicknesses of the different parts.

You have mentioned that the strings will be metallic can you give me the section of the UNP?

How are you going to make the steps and what thickness are you going to make them?

In fact please send any information that you have with photos of the stair well and eventually the elements around the stair well (landings, doors, etc) would be of help.

All the best,

Ness

Hi Ness,

I’ve bought the Stairfile Pro as recommended. My project consists of two stairs. The first file you have. The second I attatched just now. As I mentioned earlier the sides will be made out of steel. Could you please do a revision of the project and advice?

Best regards,

Pieter

Hi Pieter,

Here are the files of your stair.

I have quickly looked over your project and have seen several errors that will make the stair difficult to build so I strongly suggest you don’t try to build the stair as it is designed.

If you need a complete revision of your project please consider using our StairFile Pro service that you can buy from our services page here:

all the best,

Me again.

Could you tell me where I could get my monthly cut-out plan?

Cheers,

Pieter
