OfflineHi,
Make a Groove or Mortaise&Tenon on side of materials thickness
and I recommend to add Nil shelf, instead of recess to limit your “cross bar” ,
otherwise if you change the height, the indentation changes the crossbar, and if you use recess, you can’t add drawers under it.
Cheers, Alex

OfflineHi Alex, I am trying to add a double back that is flush with the front of the cabinet so essentially it notches out the sides. If I make it an overpassing piece then the whole of the sides are reduced by the thickness…i would just like it where the double back is notched….see attached file. |The RHS side is underpassing and the LHS overpassing.
