Hi Alex,

thank you for advice. Lockdowel not an issues. I can have it as the pocket or line. As I stated before, my issue is that PP is transferring all my pockets to a line, when I need pockets to stay a pocket, and to process it in Aspira as pocket (3.5mm wide pocket to use 3mm end mill tool and finish it to 3.5mm)

Please check the drawings.

Hi,

Can you please use the joined cabinet for this test?
Also, could you send me the original PolyBoard file along with the edited version based on your needs?

Before proceeding, please make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of PolyBoard to avoid any issues that may have already been fixed.

To update (no need to uninstall):

  1. Close PolyBoard.
  2. Download the latest version from the link below.
  3. Launch the installer — a prompt will guide you through the update (just click Next until Exit).

PolyBoard 8.01Q

Another point you need to know:

When you create a groove, PolyBoard uses your general PP groove setup as the default if you leave the Tool ID field empty in the fitting.

groove.pngImage Enlarger

However, if you assign a Tool ID, PolyBoard will override the default groove setup with the configuration from the customized tool.

In the screenshot, I created two grooves in the same fitting:

  • 2 grooves with Tool ID — these generated two lines, as defined in my custom tool setup.
  • 2 grooves without Tool ID — these generated two polylines, each extended by 2 × 6 mm due to the recess of the non-through groove.

Another important detail:
The length of the groove determines the direction of the line when in line mode.

ori.pngImage Enlarger

For square polylines, this doesn’t pose a problem, but in line mode, the direction becomes critical. If you need to change the direction, you must adjust the orientation in the fitting.

I’ll also check with Isaac to make sure I haven’t missed anything.

Hope this helps!
—Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for sending information. I had try to follow your last guide. It is ok for some pocket or lines, but the PP is not working as it should be. I have on my dxf file exported from Polyboard. lines and pockets. For 8mm both, Milling with Polyline or line is doing how it should. Line tool is much more close to my needed vectors and it is easy to change the start node.

If the PP for Pocket/Polyline, Pocket inner setup is over 3mm, some of my pockets are not coming from Polyboard as drawing in the dxf file. During my online training, I was told that Custom tools list should override all pocket polyline settings or Milling Polyline option.

My Lockdowel 8mm work is ok to do with line, but when I have combination with drawers sides and using 5mm Lockdowel profile tool, dxf files are not correct or some parts are not shoving at all.

First dxf file is for drawer side, four operation were setup on Polyboard, 5mm Lockdowel, 5mm drilling, 3.5mm Pocket for 3mm drawer bottom, and 6.3mm pocket using 3mm end mill. As you can see, I have correct lines for Lockdowel tool, but instead of the pocket at the bottom, I have line(?)

Second dxf file is from the same export folder for 8mm Lockdowel and it is fine.

Third dxf file is created for the same drawer, but Post processor was setup as Pocket/polyline option with tools diameter 4mm with no overlap threshold. Last dxf file is from the same export with same settings.

I may have a problem with settings(?) and maybe dont understend, but working with previous versions and using tool identifier it was working fine. Please, let me know what do you need and where I am creating a problem

Regards

Hi,

To be clear,

type.pngImage Enlarger

(1) the line may not be exactly 4 mm because Pocket creates a contour with the exact dimensions, then cleans up the tool path with ‘Tool overlaps Thresold’ which calculates the threshold of overlaps on the contour to limit the length of the cleaning path, which is therefore more visible with a wider pocket.

(2) Standard “Groove” in polyligne , or “Shape” create only the exact Outline, and can be adjust in length with recess/through groove setting

(3) “Groove” in line mode provide single ligne, and can be adjust in length with recess/through groove setting

line.pngImage Enlarger

In case of lockdowels , form me you don’t need pocket, but line, first path at 4.5mm depth and another path at 9.2mm, and recess of non through grooves at 0mm

like this length of groove provided start and end line point, and “orientation” change start and end point

Hope that’s helpful, Alex

Hi Alex

I will send you file from Aspira. Import from polyboard is sending wrong size of the vectors. Pocket is as I setup in the Fittings library. Line that comes with dxf export is not coresponding to the pocket

Thank you for your help

I need to setup video recording of the problem

Hi,

Can you provide me with a raw VCarve file and edit to better understand your needs? There is nothing to prevent you from double machining in fitting, one with a shape to have the outline and then a second in groove mode to have a classic line. The direction of the vector can be reversed via the PP options.

All the best, Alex

Hi Alex,

thank you very much for replay

I know this part, and it is working just fine. I can see pocket and line in the Aspira dxf file for CNC preparation.

First problem with this option is, end of the vector lines in the center of the pocket doesn’t represent the center of the tool. I must to do some adjustment to all my drawings, time consuming

Second problem with post-processor is: when i setup the tool identifier, than post processor will extract only line or only pocket. Previous option to have a center vector line inside the pocket vector, is not working.

Please refer to my attached screenshots

thanks

Hi,

1* Sorry for the mistake, or the misinterpretation of your request,

But to make a groove with the tool’s axis, the machining must be done by milling or sawing in line mode.

If usually your standard groove are done in Pocket mode here you can set milling customised tool in line mode

grv.pngImage Enlarger

Default pocket milling carried out contour milling then centre cleaning in 2 operations

2° A double door is like a single door divided in two, and you have to create a structure for both, and apply it separately too.

Hope this helpful, Alex
