Hi Donald,
From you photos, it seems as if the stair well is actually “L” shaped.
If you want us to check the stair sizes can you add these dimensions :
As well as give us the depth of the floor joists or the ground floor ceiling height
I would suggest that you also read the stair related eBooks in our library
https://wooddesigner.org/support/ebooks/
The books you should read through are, Staircase Basics, Stairs:Taking Sizes and Stairs:Design Preliminaries.
You might also find it useful to read, Managing Resources.
all the best,

Hello Ness,
The top step will be fastened to the side of the second story joist.
The stairway opening is 36″ wide x 131.25″ long. The height from floor to floor is 110.5″.
I can assemble the first step to the main floor as well. I’ve attached some pictures to help illustrate the location of the stairs I’m replacing.

Hi David,
Your stair will require some adjusting to get correct construction drawings.
I’d suggest first of all that you design in StairDesigner v7, this will give you more tools to work with and you’ll get a better design.
As well as this we’ll need to have more information on your project to be able to help with the details, for instance, the real size of the stair well and joist positions, how are you thinking of assembling the last step to the first floor, etc.
I attach a StairDesigner 7 model that I think fits your original sizes taken from the StairDesigner 6 model you posted.
Note the sizes input to StairDesigner should generally be the wall or exterior sizes and not the inner as in you model.
You can tweak this StairDesigner 7 model to your exact sizes to move forwards.
However, our free service doesn’t include a detailed revision of your project so if you need more in depth coaching and verification of your project, please consider buying one of our training or support packs and we can work more closely with you to set up all the details.
