Hi Stephen,

To get the DXf files that you can load into AutoCad, and cutting lists in PDF just use your free StairFile Lite service.

Post your sds file on the forum and I’ll send you back the files.

All the best,

Ness

Hi Ness,

Thank you for that, I understand the problem now, I thought it was my lack of knowledge of the program.

How can I get stair designer to save the stair in a form Autocad can read and edit?

Also cutting lists would be usefull.

Kind regards

Steve

Hi Stev,

For the type of stair you are trying to design, StairDesigner will have some information that is not complet.

The best you can get will be this:

bullnoses-01-1.jpgImage Enlarger

The StairDesigner model will have the following errors and you will have to modify the plans, either editing the DXF files or directly drawing onto the paper print outs.

– limited and incorrect design of the bullnose steps and curved risers

– too many spindles before the first newel post

– no joint lines on the cut string.

All other construction information is correct and usable, so it’s mainly a question of adding and deleting info.

I attach the StairDesigner file for reference.

All the best,

Ness

Hi Ness,

Thank you for the help, I was havin trouble getting the rail right.

Sadly the client had a change of mind and now wants a straight stair with a bullnose on the first two steps. I used the straight stair template and produced a 15 step stair of floor height 281.5cm and width 82.7cm with a rail on the right.IMG-20150423-WA0001-Ludlow-Stairs-crop.jpgImage Enlarger

However I can’t get stair designer to give me the bullnose on the first two steps and take the rail from step3 to 15. I tried to split the stair into two flights but can’t get past the error messages.

Hi Steve,

To add the newels put the mouse over the first flight and when it turns blue, click right.

In the mouse menu,  choose “left inter..newel post”

You have to activate the left handrail and if necessary discard the second flight rail as StairDesigner can not only put a handrail on one flight.

To get the spindles only on the first flight use the “Flight parameters” tool box:

Note that StairDesigner will not set up the the joint lines for the second left post, and these will have to drawn by hand.

I attach a couple of StairDesigner examples that would fit your space.

Looking forwards to seeing the first stairs photos.

All the best,

Ness

Hello Stephen,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but as Stefan has said I’ve been away giving training and have had no internet connexion for the last week.

I’ve just tried to download your file from DropBox  and it doesn’t seem to work.

Can you upload it the forum?

To do this click the “upload attachments” button below and drag and drop to the window.

All the best,

Ness
