Hi Jessica,

Stairdesigner calculates stairs in the European way, dividing the steps and riser heights from start to end to fit within an operational window on riser height, tread width, and the stair rule. The tread width is a calculated value, not a value to enter and calculate from.

In your example, you have to play with the left or right length as they are calculated in relation to each other. Then, adapt the length of your landing.

You wanted to achieve an exact tread width of 254mm ( you probably work with another unit setting). In most building codes, a tread width needs to fit within a window of min and max values, not just one fixed value.

In StairDesigner, you can not input a tread width value. It only gets calculated.

Regards

Michel

Hi,

I had to manually add the landing and a couple of flights to put together this set of stairs.

I know the overall dimensions for the project (flight #1 and flight #4 right lengths, as well as the total “horizontal section” length – which would be flight #2, landing and flight #3 altogether).

Since I don’t know the individual right lengths for flights #2 and #3, I was wondering if there was a way I could input the thread width, and the program would create these lengths for me?

I was able to achieve the same thread width for both sections by changing the hundredth decimal of the right lengths until I got what I wanted – could I do it the other way around, since I already know the thread width I would like?

Maybe there is another way I could go about building this set, so I could have uniform thread width.

Many thanks,

Jessica
