Step shape editing
StairDesigner offers the ability to shape the steps.
Whole stair application
To access this feature, right click on any step in the 2D editing window. The menu will then include a Step shaping option.
This opens the Step shapings library window. Adding and editing shapes within this library has already been covered in the Essentials guidance.
More information:
Essentials: Quick Design libraries
Select your preferred shape, then click on the Apply icon.
The five options are self explanatory.
Please note you can select any grouping of steps by pressing Ctrl on your keyboard then clicking on each step.
The odd/even options are useful if you wish to create a stair with two different shapes, generally mirrors of each other, in a repeating sequence.
Here’s an example of this configuration:
Single step application
The method above can be used to apply a shape to a single step, this is one of the Apply options.
Another single step method with more control is to switch to the display of steps only.
Right click anywhere inside this editing window to access the Step shaping library window.
Also note you can double click on the nosing (which turns green) to activate full step shaping, so you can edit the shape directly.
Convert to a Bezier curve then start editing directly in this window.
Even without conversion to a Bezier curve, simply double click on the line and add points and/or drag to create a shape.
Riser limits
Note that you will be unable to apply a shape that will intersect with the riser.
Here we are applying a shape directly from the Curves library, another option in the drop down menu shown above.
The shape on the left is accepted, then when turned round on the right, it is highlighted in red to indicate that it is crossing the riser position.
