Hello Ed,

Sorry to get back so late, but I’ve actually been away giving training for the last week and it was impossible to get an internet access.

To answer your question on drilling:

Polyboard has 3 options.

1- a center line drawn at the center of   the hole with it’s Z length equal to the depth of the hole.

2- a circle drawn at the final depth of the hole

3- a circle drawn on the surface and extruded to the final depth.

In the vast majority of cases these options are easily enough for most CAM programs.

From what you describe the 3rd option seems to correspond. Although this option looks like 2 circles joined together it is infact a circle that is extruded to the depth of the hole.

Can you tell me what CAM software your supplier is running?

All the best,

Ness

Hello again,

Just got a reply from my CNC machinist:

“The one with just the depth is a problem as it  does not have the hole on the surface.

The best way to have it is either with the depths and diameter in the layer description or, where the top of the hole and the bottom of the hole are connected, so our software knows that they are actually holes and will extract them, or as the pdf’s you sent where the holes are on the surface but they are keyed up so you know what is what.

Is there a workaround in the PP’s settings that will help me here Ness?

Kind Regards,

Iago

Hi Iago,

Sorry about that. It looks empty for me too. We’ll get another zip across to you as soon as possible. Ness is in a meeting for most of today though, so please bear with him.

Cheers,

Stefan

Hi Ness,

Sorry, but the zip file seems to be empty or corrupted – my computer won’t open it?!?

Hi Iago,

As promised, here are the DXF files.

One batch has the vertical drillings “elevation  defined” and the other “thickness defined”.

Note that we also have this option for grooves and inner tooling (pockets).

There are lots of other options that we can also set up to suit your suppliers,  layer names, approach paths, polyline directions, etc..

All the best,

Ness

Hi again,

No problem to post a DXF file.

It’s late here so I’ll do it tomorrow.

All the best,

Ness

Thanks Ness – that’s great.

I’m planning a 1-2week period after purchase to get used to the new export features and getting the connection with the CNC programmers seamless.

My CNC guys have replied about the hole-drilling issue, and reckon that the “Elevation Defined” option should work well for them.

So as to test the system, they’ve asked if there is there any chance of getting hold of a sample dxf that uses this method of showing holes?  Any sample file of an individual component (showing face drilling) will do.

If there’s a sample project on here that features that method then please point me towards it and I’ll use that.

Thanks again,

Iago
