Wood Designer forum
Hello from Acastrian York|Page 6|Forum|WOOD DESIGNER
Thanks Ness.
I use several suppliers across the area, all of whom prefer to take dimensions for plain cut pieces and dxf.s for the machined/drilled pieces. I think a copy for myself would keep my options open.
Can I as another question (that I couldn’t see on the FAQ)? Would a stand-alone laptop running the software require an internet connection to work? I understand it would need to be connected for the initial download, but thereafter?

Hi Ed,
Happy to be of help.
Just a thought, if you can get your supplier to buy a Polyboard Pro PP to run his machine, you don’t have to buy it yourself.
You can then just buy the Pro version that enables you to build without CNC and send him the Polyboard files that he processes with his Polyboard Pro PP to run his machine for you.
We are setting up lots of people who have CNC with Polyboard Pro PP so that they can be suppliers for people like you.
If a supplier is equipped with Polyboard Pro PP, it’s even possible for you to use the free version to design and then send him the files.
However, we have found that a professional generally needs to output cutting lists, and drawings and have pricing, that the Pro version outputs.
All the best,
Ness

Hello Ed,
I can understand that drawing with SketchUp and Draftsight is a very time-consuming process.
Polyboard Pro PP version will export all the parts to separate DXF files that are optimised for CNC.
If your 3rd party CNC use a Biesse, Homag or SCM machine, you can even send directly the appropriate files without using DXF.
The best solutions is even to use a CNC supplier who has Polyboard to run his machine and send him directly the Polyboard files.
If your furniture can be designed with Polyboard you will not only save lots of time setting up the design but also get automatically all the cutting lists, workshop drawings and DXF files as well as the prices and labels to build the project.
From visiting your website, I’m sure that Polyboard will work well for your projects and save you lots of time and effort.
Hope this is helpful,
All the best,
Ness
PS: You don’t have to buy a PC lots of people are using our software on Mac’s running and emulator.
Have a look at the FAQ.
Hello all,
My name is Ed Jones, proprietor of Acastrian Bespoke Fitted Furniture in York. I’ve been designing with Sketchup for the last 4 years, then converting the designs into cutting sheets on Cutlist before cutting by hand – time consuming!
Recently I’ve been using a 3rd party’s CNC router to manufacture some pieces of work. The issue I’ve had is how time consuming drawing the .dxf files for them is (I use DraftSight for this). Can you answer a question for me please? I think the Polyboard software would be ideal for all my design needs, but would I be able to export individual components as .dxf files to send to my manufacturer?
My apologies if this question has been asked before, but as I’m a Mac user I haven’t trialled the Polyboard software yet. If the .dxf export of individual pieces (and their drilling/milling requirements) can be achieved then I feel an investment in a PC coming on!
Kind Regards,
Ed
