Hi Bob, just to reply to your last question here, the forum notification emails you receive are just a way to tell you someone has replied to your message. If you reply to the email itself, it won’t post a new message on the forum. You still have to do that on the forum itself. All the best, Stefan

Thanks for that Michel. I am in the process of responding to your design input at the moment, there is a lot of information that I now realise that I haven’t given you! Forgive a first time forum user, I’ll get better! By the way, does responding to you on email also go onto the thread? Or do I need to copy paste to it?

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob,
To answer your question on changing the default.
SD7 gives you the possibility to create manufacturing methods or sub-methods
you need to go to libraries in the top menu and choose the sub methods. There you can define all parameters you need for each aspect of the stair parts. You can name them and create different types for the same parts. Then the manufacturing methods. There you can choose between all the variables you have set in the sub-methods to create a manufacturing rule for a specific kind of stair.
So if you need a certain kind of banister in your example without having to apply a manufacturing method you have to go to the property screen on the right side and choose handrail parameters / banister parameters / section
now you can change the width and section for the whole stair
regards

Michel

Hi Bob,

I made some changes on your stair to make it more compliant to the stair rules

Reduced the length of the first flight and step qty’s to achieve the stair rule.
Worked on the newels and add a first newel
offset the cut-string so that banisters are on top of the steps
add thickness on the step (35mm instead of 20)
worked on penetrations of the steps and riser in the newels and stringers
reduce the width of the handrail

Changed the nosing to 40mm

Check it and let me know your findings

regards
Michel

Hi

I have attached a first attempt at my staircase. One problem is that I can’t resize the cross section of some of the ballustrading from default 30mm to 18mm in the second flight. How do I change the default? I would also appreciate some feedback on the viability of the design! (I am aware that it pushes the UK building regs to the limit)

Regards

Bob Harrison
