Hi Ness and Stefan,

My apologies for taking up so much of your time, but I created a couple of SketchUp files of what I am looking to do with Polyboard.

The first attachment (Home Bar.txt) should give you a better perspective of my project.  You will need to rename it with the .skp extension to load it up in SketchUp (for some reason it would not upload the file with that extension into this forum).

Note:  the curved end should be covered (I could not get SketchUp to do this for me).

Also, I am thinking of making the back side section (closest to the stairs) a door and also including more shelving in there.  That is to say that the double-back will be included in that door.  See the second attachment (Double Back Finish.txt), again renaming it with the .skp extention to load it in SketchUp.

Thanks!

Christopher

Thanks, Stefan, for your prompt reply!

So you will notice that my home bar has a strange “unbox” planned into it…  That is because the bar is being “incorporated” around an external corner of the basement; effectively, leaving an area for my slot machine.

I planned the bar based on the following picture:  (EDIT: link no longer available)

So now I am at the point where I need a bit of assistance in including some of the finer details of the bar.  First, how would I “cut-out” the bar top as per the picture above?

Also, (since I included a double-back into the plan) how can I “cut-out” the back to expose proverbial windows to the false back? To add to this, can I also incorporate a “double-side” to do the same?

I would also like to add the uprights (front-facing), at each side of the cutout bar top, between the bar top and the lower bar top (see picture).

And one final matter (for now), how would include other material types (i.e. oak, maple, etc.) with all of the available thicknesses?  Oh yes, can the measurements be changed into imperial rather than metric?

Thanks!

Happy New Year Christopher and everyone else at Wood Designer!

Thanks for introducing yourself and letting us know about the projects you’re working on. I had a look at your home bar, nice layout, with plenty of space for some fine wine in there too.

Please let us know how the design progresses, would love to see the finished unit eventually too, and of course let us know if you need any help with the software or anything else along the way.

All the best,

Stefan

Hi!

I am a very novice woodworker…  An IT Professional by trade (with 25 years of experience).  I have completed many construction-related tasks to renovate my home, including building two large decks (one 22′ x 20′ and one 75′ at its longest point and 24′ at its widest), finishing my complete basement with what is now the master bedroom (with a walk-in closet), a full bathroom, an office area, the furnace/workshop room, a large entertainment area with a replica theater area (108″ screen), an exercise area, and a home bar area (Home Bar is missing).

This is where my first woodworking project comes in…  I am going to build a home bar.

I found this site and associated software via my searching the web.  I’ve already watched the first two videos re:building the entertainment unit and I’ve already created my home bar with that limited knowledge.  Of course, it is not perfect yet, but it is very close.  I’ve attached it for your viewing pleasure…

Anyways, this is my simple intro…  With that, Happy New Year everyone.  T-minus 4 hours, 22 mintues til the ball drops!
